Peter Dudley’s Essex Senior League preview

Non-league enthusiast, Peter Dudley, previews the weekend’s ESL action

Enfield 1893 v Redbridge

Hosts Enfield welcome Redbridge to Barrows Farm looking to try and end a terrible run which has seen them lose five of their last six in the league. The Motormen have had a mixed run of form over the same period but did progress through to the Quarter Finals of the Gordon Brasted last weekend after a terrific win at Southend Manor. I have a feeling the visitors will sneak this one as well.

Pete’s Prediction 1-2

Eton Manor v Ilford

The Foxes are in decent form and visit Goffs Lane to take on an Eton Manor side who reached the quarter final of the Gordon Brasted by defeating Ilford’s Cricklefield rivals Barkingside. Manor have had a mixed last six games in the league though and I feel the visitors will continue their decent form here.

Pete’s Prediction 0-2

Haringey & Waltham v Barkingside

’Side will look to put their Gordon Brasted defeat at Eton Manor behind them with a victory against bottom side Haringey & Waltham at the Terry Mac. And with just one defeat in their last six, the visitors have every right to feel confident as they come up against a side who have conceded almost three goals a game for the last six and have lost five of those in the process. Expecting an away win here.

Pete’s Prediction 0-3

Hullbridge Sports v West Essex

West Essex return to Lower Road knowing they already have a recent cup victory here to remember and having won four of their last five will be in a pretty confident mood. Hosts Hullbridge have only won one of their last six in the league although that did come in their last game at Mile End against struggling Hamlets so maybe this can spur them onto another win here. I feel this one may end all square, though.

Pete’s Prediction 2-2

London Bari v FC Romania

Having conceded 23 goals in their last six games the last side London Bari would have wanted to have welcomed to the Dog would be FC Romania, who themselves have netted twenty goals in the same period. Bari are woefully out of form and come up against a Romanian side who have won four of their last five so it looks ominous for the home side it has to be said. Comfortable away win I feel.

Pete’s Prediction 0-4

Southend Manor v Basildon United

Manor will look to bounce back against local rivals Basildon United after their disappointing home loss to Redbridge last weekend but the Bees will also want to bounce back from their home loss to Barking in midweek to sure proves to be a decent battle at the Southchurch Arena. Manor have the better form over the last six games but this being a local derby I feel it will end all square.

Pete’s Prediction 1-1

Sporting Bengal United v Barking

Bengal’s form of one win in six doesn’t really do them justice, as their good football hasn’t turned into goals and mistakes at critical times, have let them down. They pushed FC Romania all the way in their last fixture and will sure give leaders Barking a tough assignment at Mile End on Saturday, but I feel the leaders will just have the edge and get the job done.

Pete’s Prediction 0-2

Stansted v Sawbridgeworth Town

Another derby at the weekend sees a potential mouthwatering match up between Stansted and Sawbridgeworth Town at Hargrave Park. Both teams are in fairly good form as well so it has the makings of being a pretty spectacular fixture so expect goals in this one as well. Sawbo have won their last five games so will want to continue this run whilst Stansted have won their last three but I feel the winning runs will end for both as they will hold each other to a draw.

Pete’s Prediction 2-2

Waltham Forest v Burnham Ramblers

Forest have struggled for some time now after a terrific start and the upheaval of their entire first team squad. They did at least defeat bottom side Haringey & Waltham last time out although this is hardly a gauge of where they currently are and they come up against a spirited Burnham Ramblers side who have taken eight points from their last six games and are unbeaten in their last two so will give the hosts plenty to think about. I have a feeling this one will end all-square, though.

Pete’s Prediction 1-1

Here are this weekend’s Reserves Division matches:

AFC Sudbury v Waltham Abbey

Barking v Sawbridgeworth Town

Hullbridge Sports v Bishop’s Stortford

Redbridge v Barkingside

Takeley v Heybridge Swifts
